Olympic Fly Zone

Post by jetlag »

The sprint coach I ran under and asstisted with sprints for over 12 years used an Olympic fly zone for the 4x100. It would make the average joe sprinter look like Carl Lewis. Have you used this technique and do you have any opinions on it? :)

Fly Zone

Post by George Payan »

The Olympic fly zone is the same as the 10-meter fly zone. I have used this technique to the maximum for some athletes. Not all athletes need the maximum 10-meter fly zone.

Strategy is involved because you want some athletes to receive the baton soon and some later. In high school, the second leg runner was the fastest, a 10.5-meter runner, and he received the baton sooner to run more distance into the third leg. The third leg runner was the slowest runner so we wanted him to run less distance. The anchor runner was the second fastest, a 10.8, and he received the baton at the beginning of the exchange zone.
