My son is a 14 year old pitcher. He is a big guy and very slow on the base path. Can you recommend any specific training, ie: books, tapes, cd's, that we can use to improve his speed? He runs with his team but he definitely needs specific sprint work. I am interested in personal training also, but have been unable to find a trainer. Any suggestions? Thanks a million in advance.

Base Running Speed

Since the distance between the bases is 90 feet or 30 yards, work on speed two times a week to increase speed between bases. If he is in-season, do the speed workouts after practice. Continue to work on speed two times a week after the season is over to prepare for the upcoming season.

In this Speed Forum there is a topic on "How to Improve Running Speed for the 40 Yards". Follow this program. I use this same program when personal training football and baseball players.

We are developing a newsletter with articles on speed development in every issue. This newsletter will be announced on the web site this month.
