Decision Time

First, I would like to thank Coach Payan for his tips on spreading my workouts through running and throwing. Now I have a new issue.

I went to J.V. districts to run the 800, which I p.r.'d in by 19 seconds with help from Coach Payan. I ran it in 2:29. However, though javelin has never been an event I've seriously considered, I decided to throw it for the second time ever at an event just for fun. I went 76', 96', 109' and finally 130.' That's with a last second crash course lesson minutes before I threw. The 130' throw also beat every mark on my team in javelin.

Do I show enough potential in javelin to shift my focus from shot put where I throw 39.'? If so, how should I change my training schedule to incorporate javelin as my #1 event? I'll still throw shot. It wasn't a fluke throw, as I threw 130' 8" in practice the day after.

Thanks,
JIMMY

Decision for the Javelin

You show more potential in the shot put. Continue with your same schedule. Work on multiple events, but spend more time on your weakest event, which is the javelin. The athlete who is the strongest with the best technique will be the most successful.

In this forum there is a topic “Training Program for Decathlon” and training in multiple events. Read this information for assistance on how to approach the javelin. Click on this link:
