Cross Country Race Planning Form

Here are some suggestions that should be considered in talking with athletes before a race:

Name

Date

Date and Place of Competition

What is your goal time for this race? (consider course difficulty, weather, your current training and health)

If you have run this course previously, what was your best time?

Considering the competitors, where will you start in the race (ie: top 15)

What teammate(s) will you run with? Is this the person you ran with last week or a person who ran faster? How much faster?

What part of this race will you surge or put extra effort? Where will you begin your kick?

List any negative thoughts you have had recently and possible ways to change them to positive ones. What are the reasons for these negative thoughts?

List some positive statements that will help you during this specific race.

Dr. Edmund Burke once said: "Planning ahead is the foundation of all good things."

On the home page of this web site under Psychology there are excellent articles on positive statements that will help your athletes prepare for their specific race.
