I believe it is very important to know what is “a winner” and what is “a loser” in God’s eyes because the Bible clearly says we will all stand before God to be judged. And God will judge our life as being a winning life or a losing one. If it is a winning one, we will be welcomed into our new mansion and for all eternity there will be no more pain, suffering, injustice, pressure to perform etc. etc. If our life does not pass we will depart from God and forever there will be no more peace, love, kindness etc. etc.
Obviously, God’s definition of winning and losing is quite different than societies. Society only looks at the scoreboard or the final results. Thus you can be an Olympic champion and receive a hero’s welcome. Yet you may have gotten there through cheating (steroids) and when you get home you are unfaithful to your spouse and kids! God would say “no way are you a winner!”
Winning in God’s eyes always involves three things.
1. An attitude of gratefulness
In Psalm 50:14 God says, “I want nothing of yours because everything belongs to me. What I want from you is an attitude of gratefulness and for you to keep you promises to me!”
You want to begin being a winner in God’s eyes? Stop and say thank you now and then for the abilities and opportunities He gives you to compete. Winning in God’s eyes also involves:
2. Giving 100% of everything you are to win.
You have been hearing this since you were in grade school but it is a Biblical principle. The Bible says, “Whatever your right hand finds to do, do it with all your might!” It also says, “In a race all the runners run but only one gets first prize, so run to win.” It is okay to be a fierce competitor who wants to win! Just compete within the rules. If you are just 60% healthy that is all God expects! Finally and the most difficult, God wants you to:
3. Compete for His glory and recognition versus your own!
David, when just a youth and facing the giant Goliath, said, “You come to me with your sword, shield and javelin but I come to you in the name of the Lord whom you have cursed. With His help I shall this day cut off your head and feed you to the birds! Then David ran to face Goliath!
David was fighting for God's glory and in return God also let David receive great glory. God will do the same for us!
Conclusion
You want to have a winning life and be a winning athlete in God’s eyes? Then abandon society’s definition of a winner and loser and go with God’s! You will not be disappointed in this life or the life to come!
