This past week a number of celebrities died and great things were said about them. Michael Jackson was called one of the greatest entertainers of all time! Steve McNair was called a great athlete and quarterback. Farrah Fawcett was called a great Hollywood personality.

But were they great people?

God’s criteria for greatness, has nothing to do with fame or talent but simply, “Did you fulfill the purpose for which I created you?” And what has God created us for? His purpose for all of us involves three things.

--You were created to have a relationship with Him. (Did you have one?)
--You were created to serve your Christian brothers & sisters. (Did you?)
--You were created to help get others into Heaven. (Did you?)

Fulfilling this purpose does not acquire ability but humility. To begin a relationship with God, you humble yourself before Jesus and acknowledge He is God and you are imperfect and need saving. To serve your Christian siblings you humble yourself, do the menial and consider them as greater than yourself! To help get others into heaven you humble yourself and open your mouth about the Kingdom of God!

For those who do this, they are considered great in God’s eyes and will eventually hear the words, “Well down good and faithful servant. Come and share your Master’s happiness!” For those who do not they will hear Jesus say, “Depart from me, you are now cursed because you never wanted to know me!

Michael Jackson, Steve McNair and Farrah Fawcett now know one of those two realities.
You may never be great in society’s eyes but you can be great in God’s!
